Though in a new role, Mitsubishi Corporation is returning to the Indian market. Rather than bringing back well-known models such as the Lancer or Pajero, they have chosen to make a calculated risk. Mitsubishi Corp. recently provided funding to TVS Mobility, a significant participant in the Indian auto industry. TVS Mobility specializes in handling dealerships around the country for different automakers. The idea with Mitsubishi joining the fray is to create a new company named TVS Vehicle Mobility Solution.

Mitsubishi is making a big investment in TVS Mobility this year, marking the company’s first foray into the Indian auto industry. TVS Mobility spun out its auto sales section, and Mitsubishi’s entry signals that it has a reputed 30% ownership in the company.

At this moment, focus is on the partnership with TVS Mobility. Mitsubishi’s arrival, though, raises the possibility of their automobiles being offered in the future—possibly as high-end imports. The anticipated $33–$66 million investment is pending government approval. After receiving approval, Mitsubishi wants to work with TVS Mobility to increase its dealership network throughout India.

Mitsubishi has a long history in India spanning multiple decades. Through joint ventures and agreements with local partners, the business first entered the Indian market in the 1980s. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation made a name for itself in a number of industries, including manufacturing, infrastructure, and automobiles.
