Reopening the 4 Gates of the Jagannath Mandira: BJP Government's Pledge Fulfilled

The newly elected BJP government in Odisha has approved a critical proposal to reopen all four gates to Puri’s famed Shree Jagannath Mandira, keeping a key electoral pledge. A specific amount of ₹500 crore has been given to solve crucial concerns related to the temple, such as infrastructural renovations, better security measures, and preservation initiatives to safeguard its holiness and historical value. This program demonstrates the government’s commitment to boosting cultural heritage and religious tourism in the region.

Visiting 4 Gates of the Jagannath Mandira: Leaders' Pledge and Temple's Accessibility

The Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi,Deputy Chief Minister  K.V. Deo, along with Prativa Parida and several BJP MPs and party leaders, visited the sacred Shree Jagannath Mandira and offered prayers to Lord Jagannath. During their visit, they also conducted a parikrama around the temple, symbolizing their reverence and commitment. The opening of all four gates, a crucial promise in the BJP’s election manifesto, was celebrated as a monumental event. This act not only honors a key electoral pledge but also aims to enhance the temple’s accessibility for devotees and boost spiritual tourism in Odisha. 

Closure of 4 Gates of the Jagannath Mandira Impacted Devotees During COVID-19

The previous BJD government has closed three of the Shree Jagannath Mandira’s four gates since the COVID-19 outbreak began. During this time, devotees were only allowed to enter through the Singhadwar, while the gates on the other three sides of the temple remained closed, causing tremendous hardship and congestion for them.

This restriction affected not just the convenience of admission, but also the spiritual experience of many pilgrims. The newly elected BJP government’s decision to reopen all gates is viewed as a relief, resuming the traditional flow of worship while also signaling a return to normalcy and more inclusivity for all guests.
