"Supreme Court Mandated Self-Declaration on Ads Streamlined through Broadcast Seva Portal"
In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of India mandated that all marketers and advertising firms provide a self-declaration certificate before to publishing or broadcasting any advertisement. In response to this demand, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has quickly built a feature on the Broadcast Seva Portal to streamline the submission procedure for TV and radio commercials.
"Press Council of India Enforces Compliance for Print and Digital Ads in Response to Supreme Court Mandated self-declaration on Ads"
Similarly, the Press Council of India has implemented a parallel function on its website to ensure compliance with print and digital online advertisements. This proactive step intends to increase openness and accountability in the advertising business, protect consumer interests, and promote ethical standards across all media channels
Beginning June 4, 2024, advertisers must provide a signed certificate, endorsed by an authorized representative, through designated portals. This accreditation is required for any new advertising airing or printed beginning June 18, 2024. It certifies that the advertising does not make any deceptive statements and follows regulatory criteria, including Rule 7 of the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and the Press Council of India’s journalistic conduct standards.
Advertisers must provide proof of certificate submission to the particular media platform, since no advertising will be allowed on television, print, or the internet without this certification. This severe step is intended to ensure compliance with advertising regulations and improve consumer protection across all media platforms.
