Closure of 4 Gates of the Jagannath Mandira Impacted Devotees During COVID-19
The previous BJD government has closed three of the Shree Jagannath Mandira’s four gates since the COVID-19 outbreak began. During this time, devotees were only allowed to enter through the Singhadwar, while the gates on the other three sides of the temple remained closed, causing tremendous hardship and congestion for them.
This restriction affected not just the convenience of admission, but also the spiritual experience of many pilgrims. The newly elected BJP government’s decision to reopen all gates is viewed as a relief, resuming the traditional flow of worship while also signaling a return to normalcy and more inclusivity for all guests.
